IMCMI.ORG
A chapter website
exists. We have just completed a major
upgrade to the website this past month. There are
a few pieces of information (pictures, etc.) that are
needed to complete the web site. We will be
updating the current website in the next couple of weeks
so that all members can provide any additional
comments. Go to www.imcmi.org.
Send any comments on the website to dschumaker@schuco.com.

CONFAB
If you missed the National
Meeting this year, you still have a chance to attend a
conference. CONFAB is scheduled for October
23-25, 2005. Mark your calendar, go to
www.confabusa.org.
Professional Development Day
One of the activities being
considered for the winter is a Professional Development
Day. Several other chapters have benefited (grew
own
membership) from sponsoring such programs. We will
be looking for volunteers from our members if this is to
become a reality in Detroit.
Member Profiles
We need more member
profiles!!
This is another way for IMC-MI
members to begin to know each other and perhaps identify
opportunities for growing our consulting practices
through joint projects. However, to be featured in
the newsletter you need to (1) be a member of IMC-USA
and (2) need to provide a brief write up and a
digital picture. It is each consultants
responsibility to get this information to dschumaker@schuco.com
if they want to increase their visibility by being
in the newsletter. |

September 19th
IMC MI Meeting
We will resume our meetings on September
19th after a two-month hiatus. Mr. Doug Hicks (see
member profile below) will be presenting the topic
:
Good
Decisions Require Good Models ...How a company's
cost model can make or break the
organization.
Valid models enable
individuals to understand the phenomena around them and
lead them to make decisions based on reality.
Invalid models mislead decision makers and cause them to
make decisions based on a distorted view of
reality. Decisions supported by invalid models can
only lead an individual or an organization toward
long-term failure.
A major survey conducted
during 2003 indicated that 98% of CFOs believe their
company's cost models are inaccurate with 38% believing
they are seriously inaccurate. Further, only 20%
were planning to do anything about it! In other
words, 98% of the surveyed organizations base their
decisions on cost models they know to be invalid.
What are the consequences of such behavior and what can
be done to save your clients from those
consequences?
We will meet
at 7:00 am on Monday, September 19th at the Skyline
Club. As is our usual practice, the breakfast
meeting will begin with a full breakfast buffet and
networking opportunity at 7:00 am. The
presentation will begin at 7:30 am and conclude by 9:00
am. As a reminder, the fee for the breakfast and
program is $20.00 for members and $25.00 for
non-members. ($5...just one more reason to become a
member!)
If we have not already heard from you,
we will appreciate knowing in advance if you will be
joining us. Responding to this email with a simple
yes or no is greatly appreciated. |

IMC National
IMC National is currently considering
holding a Chapter Leadership Conference (CLC) for
2006. The idea came from a feeling among the
Chapter President's Council that developing Chapter
executives to be leaders is a worthwhile
enterprise. As many of you probably already know
due to financial considerations, the only conference
that is scheduled for next year is CONFAB in the September -
October timeframe. However, there is a feeling
that a conference that concentrates on developing
chapter leadership would be beneficial to the long term
growth of IMC.
Along the same lines, there is an effort
underway to develop a Chapter Handbook. There has
been different versions of such a handbook at different
chapters in the
past; however, there is currently an effort to
resurrect and update the Chapter Handbook for
distribution and use by all chapters.
Speaking of growth, ICA
members will be joining the Institute of
Management Consultants within the next year. There
are approximately 250 members of that
organization, although some of the members are already
members of IMC..
As some of
you may already know, IMC (Mark Haas) is currently in
the process of an extensive revision to the IMC
website. Mark has set up pages and
structures for each chapter on the IMC USA website. IMC NCR is doing this
because it will be much easier to maintain and will
provide
access to functionality that would otherwise
have to set
up and/or purchased. IMC would like to encourage some
consistency of brand across the sites, but this is an
issue for later. IMC-MI has begun looking at this
for our chapter. |
