Joint Partnering - It Works
Three chapter members -
Dennis Schumaker, Patricia Schumaker, and D. Kerry
Laycock -
have successfully pursued joint consulting
assignments. Their business relationship developed
as a result of being IMC-MI. members. They
coordinated the May 16th meeting where
the consultants discussed tips for joint
business. Needless to say, they have justified
their membership in IMCUSA by the additional business
opportunities provided.

Tech Update
One of the goals of IMC-MI is to
keep our members informed on the latest technologies
that are available to streamline the delivery of their
services to their clients. Two meetings ago, we
had an overview of the wireless telecommunications
industry and the current and coming products that will
be able to assist us in our practices. Future
meeting plans are to delve into tablet PC technologies,
smart phones and other evolving technologies. If
anyone knows a expert in these areas that might be able
to speak at one of our meetings, please pass the
information on to us at dschumaker@schuco.com

CONFAB
If you missed the National
Meeting this year, you still have a chance to attend a
conference. CONFAB is scheduled for October
23-25, 2005. Mark your calendar, more information to
follow..
Professional Development Day
One of the activities being
considered for the winter is a Professional Development
Day. Several other chapters have benefited (grew
membership) from sponsoring such programs. We will
be looking for volunteers from our members if this is to
become a reality in Detroit.
Member Profiles
We are planning on having a member
profile in each of our newsletters. This is
another way for IMC-MI members to begin to know each
other and perhaps identify opportunities for growing our
consulting practices through joint projects.
However, to be featured in the newsletter you need to
(1) be a member of IMCUSA and (2) need to
provide a brief write up and a digital picture. It
is each consultants responsibility to get this
information to dschumaker@schuco.com
if they want to increase their visibility by being
in the newsletter. |

June 20 IMC MI
Meeting
The June 20 meeting will be our
last meeting until September 19, 2005. Changes are
coming at the IMC-USA national level and IMC-MI is
planning on taking advantage o f the two-month hiatus in
our meeting schedule to begin to implement some of its
own changes for the upcoming
year.
We have received a lot of suggestions
over the last year and this summer will be the time that
many of these suggestions will begin to be put in
place. We will be presenting some of our thoughts
for the upcoming year during our June 20 meeting to
solicit member feedback and comments. You can
think of this presentation as that of a Business
Plan To Grow Membership and Membership
Participation . Just what are those ideas,
well this newsletter is just one of the ideas being
considered along with selected evening meetings, members
only meetings that center around improving
consulting skills - such as proposal writing,
presentation skills, etc. conducted by IMC-MI
members.
We will meet at 7:00 am on Monday, June
20th at the Skyline Club. As is our usual
practice, the breakfast meeting will begin with a full
breakfast buffet and networking opportunity at 7:00
am. The presentation will begin at 7:30 am and
conclude by 9:00 am. As a reminder, the fee for
the breakfast and program is $20.00 for members and
$25.00 for non-members. ($5...just one more reason to
become a member!)
If we have not already heard
from you, we will appreciate knowing in advance if you
will be joining us. Responding to this email with
a simple yes or no is greatly appreciated. |

Six members of the IMC-MI
chapter attended the National Conference equaling or
exceeding the attendance of other IMC chapters. If
there was a general theme developed during the
conference, it revolved around collaboration and
cooperation versus competition. Some of us might
have felt that the last couple of years have been
difficult for consultants and the stories regarding
the bigger firms offices shrinking by 50% in
consulting professionals etc. and articles in
Consulting News tend to bear these facts
out. However, it became apparent during the
conference that now more than ever, smaller firms
can become much more of a competitive threat to the
larger firms if we learn to team for the larger
projects. The buyers of consulting services have
become much more savvy in recent years - in fact, more
now that ever before, many of the buyers of
consulting services have previously been consultants
before taking a corporate position. The skills and
experience that only years of actual consulting
experience can bring are what these buyers understand
versus the gaggle of newly minted MBAs that the
larger firms offer.

IMCMI.ORG
Yes,
the rumors are correct - a chapter website is under
development. Last April, the IMC-MI board approved
the expenditure of the necessary funds to develop a
chapter website. We have registered our domain www.imcmi.org and have
created a place holder website at that address.
The website team has been following the actions at the
national level to make sure that our efforts are
coordinated with the national level website
revisions. Current plans are to have the IMC-MI
website available by late Summer 2005 - independent of
the progress made on the redo of the national
website. One of the first objectives will be to
publish and maintain the chapter calendar of events
for the upcoming 2005-2006 program. Learn more at www.imcmi.org
